I know that for most discs golfers who've played anytime at all you are not going to LOVE Mayfield's new short, open course. But anytime a new disc golf course is created and opened I say the world is a little bit better place. Why not go show these newbies what a disc is possible of in the hands of awesome player like yourself? It's cheap enough, Pro is only $35. Advanced is $25. These are the only 2 payout divisions. Intermediate and Rec are now competing for prizes. And the novice divison would be perfect for that friend or spouse that you've been wanting to get in the game. For $10 they get a disc, mini, and probably some other cool stuff.
Now you and I know that it won't have the jungle toughness of Paducah, the well worn classic feel of Murray, or the hills and waterways of Draffenville. However, it will have me and hopefully you there with some new golfers being introduced to the sport and isn't that what it's all about?
Friends, the beauty of a disc in flight, the sound of chains, a cold beverage, stories of shoulda went ins, and I can't believe he did that's.
Oh, and of course, winning!
Event begins in the afternoon 12:30 to 1:30 but for more info see http://www.bluegrassdiscgolf.org/
The icestorm and the following "repair" set us back almost a year but renewed interested and some upcoming events should get us on the way to a November date with Alternate Pins.
Disc Golf Freak said he will donate the time to make the sleeves. Placement has been discussed amongst 3 players tasked with determining where to put them. H.B. Clark, course designer, has been weighing in on ideas he had at the initial design level.
The event, Deuce or Die, is designed to have a fundraiser element to it to help with the expense of the materials. The buy back in feature if you "die" all goes toward the project. Thom Clark stated, "I wouldn't go far as to say I'd miss a shot in order to pay $10 to keep playing, but knowing what it going to be used for makes me happy to pay it."
A few club dates in October may see some portable baskets around the course as holes are tried out for playability. Some holes seem obvious, while others don't seem like there is even another possible spot, but in the end we want it to add to the enjoyment/frustration of our course not to distract from what makes it such a challenging course.
Should all go well an Alt Pin Tournament will be held in November as the kickoff. Then a schedule will be created where 3 or 4 baskets a month will be moved from the original pins to the alternate pins. In a way, it will be like having a new course every month.
If you know you won't be able to make any fundraising events but will still like to kick in $5 or $10 that would be awesome. Contact me at clark176@bellsouth.net and we'll set something up.
